Fold Systems is a design studio that treats speculation as methodology. We draw from wiki archaeology, legacy-web ephemera, and critical theory to build systems that feel like they emerged from somewhere else.
Our work spans local-first software, permacomputing infrastructure, and synthetic narratives. Each project begins as clippings, dead links, marginalia and resolves into durable artifacts.
"The studio excavates possible futures and renders them in sufficient fidelity that they might be mistaken for history."
Designing for hardware that outlives its supply chain. Resistance to knowledge collapse through constrained, inspectable systems.
Digital narratives that emerge through constraint. The documentation should expose its own scaffolding.
Curation and preservation of indie web ephemera. Personal wikis as alternative knowledge infrastructure.
Operationalizing the design workflow as self-organizing agentic labor. Agents as studio members with defined roles.
We prefer fragments over briefs. A screenshot, a dead URL, a half-remembered game mechanic, someone else's idea?
The studio maintains active research clusters organized around technical and philosophical interests.
"The wiki is the studio's extended memory. A garden of clippings, half-ideas, and reference material that refuses hierarchy."
We collaborate with individuals who have fragments worth building from.
